4WheelOffroad

Today I'm going to be doing a review on 4wheeloffroad.com, one of the greatest off-road websites on the web.  4wheeloffroad has many different categories to look at and forums to post on, overall it's just a great site if you like anything about off-road.  Me personally I like the Whoops! Category, it shows the mistakes drivers make on the trail such as rolling a vehicle, ripping the front end out you know the usual. It's all about the crazy things that happen on the trail that make this category entertaing.  This just goes to show what can happen when you push your vehicle to its limits, sometimes it might roll sometimes it might flip; you might spin a bearing or break a driveshaft.  Trail riding is a fun hobby and never seems to get old, though I do it almost everyday .

What's Your View?

So the question is today folks, what's your view on trail riding.  Must I say this is a pretty tough topic but, let's just jump right into it.  Now, as you all know I defiantly view trail riding as a fun hobby and a great way to put your vehicle to its limits.  I go out every weekend and love every minute of it but, that’s just me.  I know many people who would think otherwise though for this post I’m going to stay positive.  I’m going to stay on the same views, it’s clear that everyone at 4wheeloffroad.com has the same view as me.  They enjoy every minute of trail riding but, do they?  And the answer is no, break any parts yet?  Of course you’re going to break parts here and there but that’s just what you’re asking for when you push your vehicle into things it “shouldn’t do” for those chief editors over there, it seems like the end of the world when they break something.  When we ALL know they have money and can replace them for use low class riders, we don’t have the money most of the time so, we sometimes have to pull parts from the junkyard and other places.  So, please let’s stop the complaining on stuff that is bound to happen.  Let’s run our stuff, have a good time, and live it up because its spring break and we got a week to do it all!  Let’s break parts!

Interview

Today we’re going to be doing an interview on trail riding; I’ll be asking my friend Jordon various questions about trail riding and what he thinks about it. So keep on reading and you just might learn something.

·         What’s your opinion on trail riding?  Do you enjoy it? Explain.
-               I love trail riding, its fun and a great way to kill time and make friends.
·         What do you recommend for beginners coming into the hobby?
-               Take it easy, don’t run hard, and just feel the trail
·         What are your tricks of the trade when riding less gas?
-               Drive slow and take it easy, no reason to run hard if you don’t have to.
·         Do you ever ride out by yourself or with someone else?
-               Always with someone else, just in case something goes wrong.
·         Do you ride with a club or a crew?  Do you recommend this?
-               Mainly a crew, it’s a smart thing to do and I recommend it.
·         Four wheel drive or prerunner?  Why?
-               Prerunner, gets you where you want to go FAST!
·         Winch or no winch, why or why not?
-               Winch, it’s a great tool to have if you have the money and are willing to spend it.
·         What make of truck do you prefer?
-               Ford, it’s the first and only make I prefer, rode em’ since I was 16.
·         If you could have any truck in the world, what would it be? Why?
-               Ford F250 Diesel, it has great torque and low end performance.
·         Where is your is favorite place to ride? Why?
-               Canaveral Groves Fl, 32927 There’s a variety of trails with alternating terrains.

That’s about it, as you can see the kid seems to know his stuff, so I hoped  you enjoyed the interview and have a great day.

Today we’re going to be a little off topic, I’ll be giving my review and point of view on the new EcoBoost V6 Engine of the new line up of F-Series Pick Ups.  This engine packs a punch for its size, it being a V6 it delivers 365HP, quite a lot for a V6 if you ask me.  But what makes it possible, the twin independent variable camshaft timing; these provides independent control of intake and exhaust value timing, as well as twin turbo chargers onboard.  The engineering of this engine is nothing short of spectacular.  Just the thought of a V6 delivering plenty of power to a full size Pick Up is just crazy.  There have been many torture tests on this engine; basically this thing is just indestructible.” We are fully confident that because of strict testing on the 3.5L EcoBoost  truck engines underwent before we started manufacturing it, it will take anything you throw at it.”- Eric Kuehn 4wheeloffroadmagazine

Review

Today I will be bringing you a review of the Platinum Burners from Optonics.  I purchased these little beauties from my local auto parts store about a week ago.  The package comes with everything you need.  A two way toggle switch, power wires with inline fuse, as well as ground wires of course.  Mounting brackets are also included as well with the necessary screws.  Now, what I did is mounted the lihts in the second insert of my grille on my 93’ F150 Pickup, it’s just a fill light basically meaning it gives you a wider sight of view and of course it’s brighter, lighting up the trail amazingly.  Just what I was in need of.  These lights burn at 50W with a 12V power supply leading off the battery.  With metal mounting brackets, and glass lens these lights are tough no doubt.  On with the reviewing aspect, I’ve already put these lights to the test on the trail and in the rain they perform great.  The only concern I have with them is that they do get hot and by hot I mean really hot, and for the place I mounted them in this could cause issues but other than that they’re great.  Wiring was no hassle at all.  The ground wires were giving me a little trouble but after finding a clean contact it worked just fine.  I ran the wires clean through the grille and out through the intake cut out easy as pie.  Overall, I think for the price of these lights $19.99 US it’s a great buy if your looking for cheap but powerful lights, they are also low profile which is good to.  So I hope you enjoyed this review, hope it gave you good thoughts.
Good Day.

Lesson¹

This lesson I will be talking about knowing your vehicle and new things in the trailing community. Now before you get serious about trailing you have to know what you’re getting into. You MUST know your vehicle, it is key. Now, what do I mean by that? How much does it weigh? How wide is it? And, what is it capable of? All those contribute and are essential. The new thing now days are to get yourself on a forum and talk to people and learn. It should be easy to find a forum specifically for your vehicle, for example; http://www.f150forum.com/, a forum dedicated to bringing you all you need to know about the F-Series and every generation. I’ve learned a lot form forums and they help tremendously. You can also learn a lot from your mechanic at your local auto shop, if he’s willing to give you the time of day, which in most cases they will. So get yourself out there what do you have to lose. Now on to the lesson knowing your vehicle. The best thing to do is go out to your local ride spot and see what your vehicle can do. Never ride out by yourself, you never know what’s going to happen out on the trail you could break down or get stuck. It’s always best to have someone with you to help you out. I recommend taking it easy, there’s no reason to beat your truck up, and you’ll end up breaking parts and hating your life. Take it slow, keep it in 2WD and see what it can do or only 2WD if you’re like me and do what you have to do. Only use your 4WD when it is necessary or you’re trying to conserve gas, which in this economy everyone is trying to do. So go out and give it a try  and I’ll talk to yah in the next post but remember, a lot of these people, these program directors, just like anybody else in the world, even though they're supposed to be leaders in the world, they're followers. They follow what they think someone else is doing, instead of trying to blaze a trail!

Pre - Lesson

Trail riding take skill believe it or not.  Well what is trail riding you might ask, it’s really quite simple.  Group of trucks, a small trail, and a point of destination.  Pushing your truck to its breaking point and sometimes past it, weaving and winding through the trail hitting holes and rough terrain.  Your vehicle, your actions, your mistakes.  You and a group of friends just hitting the trail best feeling in the world.  Now, let’s consider this post a pre lesson, I’ll be showing you things you might not know about trail riding and trucks in general.  First, we’re going to be starting off with the body or frame of your vehicle, it is essential to know a lot about the frame your vehicle when riding so you know how different terrain will affect you.  Now what’s attached to your frame, suspension right?  The answer is yes, now do you have independent or straight suspension.  Now, what you want is independent, independent allows your front end to move opposite to your frame, meaning a lot smoother ride and flex on rough terrain.  On to brakes, you don’t want disc brakes; you for sure want drum brakes.  Drum brakes don’t allow sand and other daubery to get into or on your pads. While with disc brakes they are completely open to water, mud, dirt, and every other thing they’ll see on the trail.  The front and rear end on the frame is a little bit complex for most people and it is for me as well for the most part. But all I can say is.   I love what I do, so it's not tiring. If I worked at a computer or drove a truck, I'd be dead in a week.   .
